Division Summary

The Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) Division takes pride in the major strides that the University has continued to make in the field of academia. Our student population continues to grow exponentially.

The Division continues strengthening its niche academic programmes while expanding its portfolio consistent with national security needs in support of the national agenda through teaching and training as such consolidating its position as a strategic stakeholder in defence and security to navigate the contemporary security environment. All the academic programmes are tailored to address the security aspects in line with the University’s vision, mission and mandate. The university remains committed to giving world-class education and training.

In order to continue providing quality education, the University will continue to develop and implement relevant programmes including doctoral ones that impact on our graduates by shaping their careers as well as their personal and professional growth.

During the 2022/2023 academic year the University Senate approved six (6) new programmes which were forwarded to Commission for University Education (CUE) for final approval before they are rolled out during the 2023/24 academic year include; Ph.D. in Crisis and Disaster Management, MA in Gender and Peace Support Studies, MSc in Aeronautical Engineering, MSc in Information Technology for Defence Systems and Master of Technology in Weapon Engineering.

The internationalization of the University continues to bear fruits as evident in the increasing number of international students across the university colleges. The students are drawn from over twenty countries from Africa, Asia and Europe who have enrolled in various academic programmes at the institution. The University has continued to receive many applications from postgraduate students for admission.

Among notable activities and achievements in the recent past, the Academic Division facilitated publication of a Post Graduate Student Handbook. The publication is meant to sensitize and enable postgraduate students on their compliance and participation in academic processes. The division continues to capacitate the academic staff through internal training sessions. It successfully held its examination workshop on examination management and administration. Similarly, the division conducted a grant writing seminar for its academic staff and research methodology clinic for both teaching staff and post graduate students.
