NDU-K HOLDS TRAINING IN PRODUCTIVITY MAINSTREAMING
National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Finance & Administration Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a, today presided over the closing ceremony of a workshop on Productivity Mainstreaming for University staff held at the University Seat in Lanet, Nakuru.
The one-week training was a collaborative venture between the NDU-K and National Productivity and Competitiveness Centre (NPCC) and was tailored towards enlightening staff on productivity as envisioned in performance contracting by enhancing and embedding measurement and assessment of efficiency and effectiveness in the use of resources, such as labour and capital, to accomplish desired output, product or service while minimizing expenses. The training is also in line with the Performance Contracting Guidelines for the financial year 2023/2024, where productivity has been included as a new indicator. It was facilitated by the experts from NPCC and Salaries & Remuneration Commission (SRC).
During the ceremony, Maj Gen. Ng’ang’a, said Productivity Mainstreaming is a crucial accountability tool which aids staff in aligning their individual performance with the broader objective of achieving efficiency, effectiveness, and ultimately boost service delivery across all departments. He further expressed his optimism that the depth and quality of knowledge the participants have been exposed to will contribute immensely in shaping NDU-K's Vision and Mission of being a premier centre of excellence in training and research in National Security and Strategy as well as contributing to National development.
At the same event, the Secretary of NPCC, Dr. Nahashon Moitaleel, underscored the importance of culture change as a key driver of productivity. He emphasised that the initiative encourages a zero-tolerance to waste without compromising quality while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
While acknowledging the significance of the training, the Director Examinations, Brigadier Elizabeth Omollo, expressed gratitude to NPCC for the enlightening experience stating that the knowledge gained would not only make the institution more efficient and competitive but would also mark a transformative journey where services would be delivered in the most effective and efficient way.
The training encompassed various topics among them; Productivity measurement, factors influencing productivity, development of metrics, the objectives of metrics and the productivity management framework. Both theory and practical exercises were incorporated to ensure comprehensive learning and experience.
