NDU-K STAFF TRAINING ON RISK MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT OF RISK REGISTER KICKS OFF
National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Research, Innovation and Security Studies, Major General William Shume,has urged University Staff to embrace the internal audit process as a means to strengthening and enhancing the quality of education and services provided by NDU-K.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of a one-week training on Risk Management and development of Risk Register for the NDU-K staff at the University Seat in Lanet, Nakuru County, the DVC reaffirmed the University's unwavering commitment to adopting the internal audit process saying it plays a critical role in bolstering the institution's ability to create, protect, and sustain value by providing the University Management Board and University Council with independent objective assurance, insight and foresight.
The DVC reiterated that, NDU-K has put in place various mechanisms for updating Internal audit documents and establishing comprehensive Risk Management Framework for enhancing internal controls and management risk so as to conform with the Public Finance Regulation.
He at the same time noted that NDU-K has fully established Public Finance Management Standing Committee in order to enhance effective and efficient financial management and to obtain total compliance and achievement of the zero Fault Audit Status.
He added, “As we strive for excellence in teaching, research, and community service, the internal audit functions stand as a pillar in our commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.”
The training which is facilitated by a team from Ministry of Defence and the National Treasury is tailored towards equipping the University staff, Risk Management Steering Committee and risk champions with adequate skills and knowledge for effective mitigation and management of risks in the University.
The event was attended by, among others,DVC Finance & Administration Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a, Major General (Rtd) Patrick Amogola, Directors, Heads of Departments, Senior Officers, Faculty and staff of the University.
