1ST NDU-K GOLF TOURNAMENT HELD AT NAKURU GOLF CLUB

Over two hundred golfers teed off at the Nakuru Golf Club (NGC) in the Inaugural National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Golf Tournament on Saturday, 13 July 2024.

The one-day tournament was sponsored by NDU-K in collaboration with Kingdom Bank saw both men and women golfers from across the country competing in various golf categories; the longest drive, both men and women, best nine, and the guest winner. There were also special categories, which included KDF winner, veteran winner, senior and junior golfer category. Those who emerged victorious in their respective categories were awarded with trophies and goodies.

Addressing the participants, Vice-Chancellor (VC) Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Finance & Administration Major General Thomas Nga'ng'a, emphasized NDU-K’s core mandate of training and conducting research and innovation in the niche area of national security and strategy.
He expressed his gratitude to NGC for hosting the tournament and all the sponsors for their support, saying their gesture exemplified what partnerships between the institutions can do to boost sports and other spheres of the country’s development. He further asked them to continue to stand with NDU-K as it continued to achieve its set objectives.

On his part, the Chairperson NGC, Mr. Titus Lusaka lauded the University management for choosing their club to host the inaugural tournament stating that the existing partnership with the University and the club is a clear indication that good things can happen when agencies come together for a noble cause. He further reiterated the additional need for the University and NGC to collaborate in projects that will benefit communities in the Nakuru region.

Also present at the event was Managing Director of Kingdom Bank, Mr. Anthony Mburu who in his remarks hailed the partnership between NDU-K and his organization terming the partnership a great step in redefining their relationship with NDU-K and wider KDF fraternity.

Also at the event were DVC Research, Innovation and Security Studies, Maj Gen William Shume, Commandant Joint Command & Staff College (JCSC) Major General Eric Kinuthia, serving and retired General, and Senior military officers and NDU-K faculty and staff.
Golf is part of the NDU-K’s wellness programmes as well as stakeholder outreach strategies.
