COMMANDANT KENYA MILITARY ACADEMY HANDS OVER LEADERSHIP MANTLE
The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Research, Innovation and Security Studies, Major General William Shume and DVC Academic and Students Affairs Prof. Anne Muigai today attended the handover takeover ceremony at the Kenya Military Academy (KMA) between the outgoing Commandant, Major General Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu and the incoming Commandant Brigadier Peter Muthama Kimondiu.
KMA is a college of NDU-K mandated to train Officer Cadets for commissioning as officers of Kenya Defence Forces and militaries of allied countries.
During the auspicious ceremony, Maj. Gen Kiugu briefed the incoming Commandant on various matters to enable him settle in his new role as the Commandant at the Academy Headquarters.
The outgoing Commandant expressed his delight for having served the nation in different capacities accorded, and reminded the cadets to focus on their training and endeavor being gallant officers in future.
"As I exit this service, I am satisfied of my accomplishments through the years having upheld the Kaizen philosophy as my guide. Hence I urge all to embrace the spirit of continuous improvement." He added.
While making his address, Major General Shume commended the outgoing commandant for his invaluable leadership and quality of training witnessed in the Academy. He further wished him good tidings as he embraced the next phase of life.
The Academy Chief Instructor and Incoming Commandant, Brig. Kimondiu appreciated Maj. Gen Kiugu for his exemplary and dedicated service throughout his illustrious military career and wished him well as he continues to serve the nation in different capacities.
Maj. Gen Kiugu exits the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) after 36 years of active service in various Command and Staff appointments in the Kenya Defence Forces both locally and overseas. During his service, his strategic leadership and unyielding wealth of experience was felt across all ranks.He leaves behind a solid legacy of high military standards and indelible footprint of Discipline and Soldierism.
Present during the event was Commander 2 Brigade, Brigadier William Kamoiru, Commandant Joint Warfare Center, Brigadier Adan Hassan, Senior Officers, Officers, Cadets, Service members among others.
