FORGING NATIONAL SECURITY THROUGH PUBLIC HEALTH AWARENESS
The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Vice-Chancellor (VC), Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, has emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between government agencies and non-state actors. He explained that such collaborations offer valuable insights and enhance resource mobilization, which is essential for tackling the complex healthcare challenges and fostering country’s socio-economic development.
He emphasized that the University is committed to offering cutting-edge training and research, promoting academic discourse, and facilitating the exchange of expertise to address evolving security challenges while supporting national development.
The VC made the remarks during the opening of the National Security Awareness in Public Health Practice, Course 2/2025 for Kenya BioVax Institute (KBI) Limited at the University Seat, in Lanet, Nakuru, where he was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Academic & Student Affairs, Prof. Anne Muigai.
In her part, Prof. Anne Muigai encouraged course participants to apply the knowledge and skills gained during the course to create practical, sustainable solutions for enhancing healthcare quality and effectively addressing evolving health security threats.
Dr. Cecilia Wanjala, the Ag. Director General and CEO of KBI, expressed hope that the course would help shape a better strategic direction and deepen understanding of national health security issues for country’s development prosperity.
Brigadier Peter Chelimo, Director of the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies ,underscored the course's significance in addressing the interrelated issues of health and security. He noted that the program aligns with a whole-of-government approach to national security, promoting institutional collaboration to uphold national values and strengthen healthcare security strategies.
The five-day course, developed by NDU-K’s Centre for Security and Strategic Studies (CSSS), aims to engage the leadership and staff of Kenya BioVax Institute (KBI) Limited in deepening their understanding of the role public health professionals play in achieving national security goals, while also raising national security awareness among KBI staff and other senior executives.
