LT GEN. TARUS LEADS NDU-K IN LAUNCHING UNIVERSITY SECURITY JOURNAL

The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) has launched Volume 3, Issue 1 (2025) of its National Security Journal, at its Seat in Lanet, Nakuru County. The event was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General David Tarus.

Themed “Securing Kenya’s Future: Emerging Threats and Strategic Solutions for National and Regional Peace and Stability,” the peer-reviewed journal focuses on the human security dimension within Kenya and the wider region, set against prevailing and emerging social, economic, and political realities.

The journal provides a platform for knowledge exchange, drawing on research from the NDU-K fraternity, security practitioners, scholars, and industry experts.

Speaking at the launch, Lt. Gen. Tarus emphasized that today’s national, regional, and global security landscape is increasingly complex and dynamic, requiring proactive measures in defence and security. He underscored the role of research, technology, and partnerships in identifying threats and crafting effective solutions.

“The journal is a testament to NDU-K’s commitment to fostering a culture of research and intellectual rigor, while contributing to policy-making and strategic planning in Kenya and beyond,” he stated. He further encouraged military scholars to publish consistently, noting that scholarly output remains a key measure of the University’s success.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Centre for Security & Strategic Studies (CSSS) Major General Joyce Sitienei, echoed his remarks, stressing that the journal will directly contribute to policies and strategies that address Kenya’s and the region’s security challenges.

“This Journal demonstrates that the University is living up to its mandate—research and innovation in security and strategy—strengthening both national security and development,” she said.

The launch marks another milestone in NDU-K’s mission to advance knowledge, inform policy, and foster a secure and peaceful Kenya.
