The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) continues to advance strategic institutional partnerships that strengthen professional education, leadership development and national security capacity. Building on this Vision, the University, in collaboration with the National Police Service (NPS), is making steady progress towards the establishment of the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA) as a constituent college of NDU-K. The Technical Implementation Committee convened its third meeting at the Academy in Ngong to assess progress, review key milestones and provide strategic direction for the next phase of the transition.

Chaired by the NDU-K Deputy Vice-Chancellor- Academic and Student Affairs- Prof. Anne Muigai, the meeting evaluated progress since the previous session and considered updates from the Technical Working Groups (TWGs) overseeing critical areas of the transition. The Committee reviewed reports from the Academic Programmes, Legal and Governance, and Infrastructure and Resource Mobilization TWGs, highlighting milestones attained, outstanding priorities and key interventions required to align the Academy’s academic, governance and institutional systems with NDU-K standards and support its successful integration as a constituent college.

Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Muigai commended members for their dedication, commitment, and unwavering focus in advancing the Committee's mandate. She urged them to sustain the momentum, remain steadfast in their efforts, and continue working collaboratively to ensure the successful onboarding of the National Police Leadership Academy as a constituent college of NDU-K.

The Academy's Commandant, Mr. David K. Mathiu, AIG, reaffirmed the National Police Service's commitment to supporting the initiative. He noted that establishing the Academy as a constituent college of NDU-K will significantly strengthen professional police education, leadership development, research, innovation, and institutional capacity, while enhancing the Service's preparedness to respond effectively to emerging security challenges.

During the meeting, the Committee underscored the importance of completing assigned tasks within the agreed timelines to sustain momentum and ensure the successful implementation of the transition roadmap. Members reaffirmed their commitment to transforming the National Police Leadership Academy into a centre of excellence in policing, security, leadership, and professional education through the establishment of robust academic programmes, sound governance frameworks, modern infrastructure, and institutional systems aligned with university standards.
