NATIONAL SECURITY AWARENESS IN PUBLIC HEALTH PRACTICE COURSE CONCLUDES
The Kenya BioVax Institute (KBI) Limited has concluded its National Security Awareness in Public Health Practice course 02/25. The closing ceremony, held at the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Seat in Lanet, Nakuru County, was officiated by Major General William Shume, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Security Studies on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai.
During the ceremony, Maj Gen Shume congratulated the participants and encouraged them to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills to address the growing security threats that impact society. He emphasized the importance of integrating these skills to enhance prevention, early detection, and rapid response to diverse and complex security emergencies, especially those with transnational implications.
He expressed confidence that through research, innovation, and technology at NDU-K, the nation could enhance its resilience in a dynamic security environment, thereby securing national development and prosperity
Dr. Cecilia Wanjala, the Ag. Director General and CEO of KBI, expressed KBI commitment to supporting national and global public health agenda in conformity with Kenya’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage which aims to ensure healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.
He highlighted Kenya's escalating challenges from pandemics, bioterrorism, and other health emergencies, stressing the need for cooperative strategies to prevent, prepare for, and effectively respond to such threats.
Brigadier Peter Chelimo, Director of the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies (CSSS), described the training as a significant step in deepening the understanding of the vital link between health and security. He emphasized that the course would provide valuable insights and innovative solutions to the complex challenges faced by healthcare professionals and security personnel globally.
The five-day course, developed by NDU-K’s Centre for Security and Strategic Studies (CSSS), aimed to foster a cohesive approach among Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and Counties (MDACs) in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.
