The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) conducted a seminar for supervisors and examiners aimed at enhancing academic excellence while strengthening research supervision and assessment standards within the institution.

The seminar was officially opened by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and Students Affairs (DVC ASA), Prof. Anne Muigai, who represented the Vice-Chancellor. The forum brought together faculty members, supervisors, and examiners drawn from the University and its colleges to deliberate on best practices in research supervision and scholarly assessment.

In her opening remarks, Prof. Muigai underscored the critical role supervisors and examiners play in safeguarding the University’s academic standards and ensuring the production of high-quality research that contributes to national and regional security discourse.

She reiterated that credible examinations and rigorous research supervision remain central to the University’s mandate of developing strategic leaders and scholars capable of addressing complex security and development challenges.

The DVC further urged supervisors and examiners to uphold professionalism, fairness and strict adherence to academic regulations throughout the supervision and examination process. She noted that consistent mentorship and objective assessment are essential in ensuring that research produced at NDU-K meets both national and international academic standards.

Participants engaged in discussions on effective supervision techniques, research integrity, enhancement of research quality, assessment standards, quality assurance in thesis evaluation and the importance of providing constructive feedback to students undertaking advanced studies at the University.

The seminar also provided a platform for participants to share experiences and align academic procedures with the University’s commitment to excellence in defence and security studies.

The initiative forms part of NDU-K’s broader strategic efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and ensure the delivery of quality education in line with its mandate of developing strategic leaders for national and regional security.
