NDU-K HOLDS MATRICULATION CEREMONY FOR KMA CADETS
The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, accompanied by leadership of the university and its Colleges, today Thursday, 1st August 2024 presided a matriculation ceremony of Kenya Military Academy (KMA) Cadets intake 13/27 at University seat in Lanet-Nakuru County .
The matriculating class KMA intake 13/27 have undergone a nine-month foundational military training and now will embark on their academic and professional phase. Upon successful completion of the three-year program, the matriculants shall graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Defence and Security Studies.
Kenya Military Academy is a College of NDU-K mandated to train Officer Cadets of Kenya Defence Force and militaries of allied countries. It’s also a premier institution for basic foundational military officer training and intellectual development.
In his address to the congregants, the VC lauded the matriculants for their successful completion of the first phase of their training and urged them to work hard in their studies while observing discipline as they prepared for future military leadership.
Lt Gen Mutai re-affirmed that NDU-K’s mandate remained training and building capacity as well as conducting research and innovation in the niche areas of National security and strategy, so as to contribute to National Security and development.
He maintained that in an effort to develop the innovative leadership required to manage conventional and evolving security challenges, the University continues to partner with other stakeholders to analyze and proffer solutions to internal, regional, and global security challenges and further evaluate their implications on Kenya’s national interests.
The Commandant KMA, Major General Muthuri Kiugu, urged the cadets to maintain discipline throughout their academic journey , emphasizing that the NDU-K curriculum was designed to prepare them for national defence and professional discharge of constitutional duties.
He stressed on the importance of adhering to the fundamental rules and regulations governing their academic development , and highlighted the institution’s growth, attributing it to an emphasis on intellectualism, discipline professionalism, and innovation.
Emphasizing on the values of hard work in achieving academic excellence , Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academic & Students Affairs Prof. Anne Muigai, informed the cadets that the journey to success requires their full determination, hard work and discipline. She further reminded them that their success requires zeal and enthusiasms to make it to the peak.
During the ceremony, the matriculants took an oath to abide by the rules and regulations governing the University making them bona fide students. The matriculating class comprised cadets from Kenya and allied countries, including Egypt, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
Present during the event were DVC Research, Innovation & Security Studies Major General William Shume , DVC Finance & Administration Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a, the Registrar Academic Affairs as well as Directors, Heads of various Departments and Senior Officers, among others.
