NDU-K HOSTS DEPARTMENTAL COMMITTEE ON DEFENCE, INTELLIGENCE AND FOREIGN RELATIONS

National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) on 23 May 24 played host to National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations at the University Seat in Lanet, Nakuru.

The Committee, guided by its mandate of investigating, inquiring into and reporting on all matters management, administration and operations of Ministries and Departments, sought to assess the progress made in project implementation, challenges faced, opportunities available, utility of the projects and the value expended on them.

Led by Hon Fredrick Ikana (Shinyalu), the Committee was oriented into the institutions' background, courses offered, its strategic focus, infrastructure, areas of improvement, and challenges faced among other significant matters.

While addressing the Committee on behalf of Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance and Administration Major General (Rtd) Patrick Amogola, reaffirmed University's commitment to offering cutting-edge training and research, creating an enabling academic discourse, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise, necessary to address dynamic security challenges as well as supporting national development.

The Lawmakers were briefed on the NDU-K's plans to expand its academic programmes, enhance human resource capacity, and forge wider partnerships and linkages. Further, they were given an update brief on research on insecurity challenges that the University is currently conducting in the North Rift Region.

On his part, Hon Ikana indicated that the tour was necessary for the Members of Parliament to enable them to get a better understanding of how NDU-K operates. He expressed the Committee's satisfaction with NDU-K’s trajectory, pledging to liaise with the National assembly to ensure that outstanding challenges were effectively addressed in Parliament to ensure effective implementation of the institution’s mandate.

Present during the visit were General Officer Commanding Western Command (WESTCOM) Major General Jeff Nyagah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academic & Student Affairs, Professor Anne Muigai, Lanet Regional Hospital (LRH) Chief Medical Officer Brig (Dr) Francis Kuria, Commandant Joint Warfare Command (JWC), Brig Adan Hassan, Senior Officers, senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and NDU-K Department Directors and Heads of Departments.
