NDU-K HOSTS NETHERLANDS DEFENCE ACADEMY (NLDA) FACULTY

A delegation from the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA), led by Prof. Sebastian Rietjens, visited the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) at its main campus in Lanet, Nakuru. The delegation was received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) for Research, Innovation, and Security Studies, Major General William Shume, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai.

The visitors were briefed on NDU-K’s mandate, which focuses on training, capacity-building, and conducting research and innovation in the niche areas of national security and strategy. These efforts aim to contribute to national security and sustainable development.

During the meeting, Major General Shume reaffirmed NDU-K’s commitment to producing future leaders, strategic thinkers, and innovators equipped to tackle current and emerging security challenges.

Prof. Rietjens, in his remarks, underscored the importance of developing defence personnel who are not only highly skilled but also analytical thinkers capable of contributing to both national and global peace.

As part of the visit, the NLDA presented a collection of books to the university. The books cover a diverse range of subjects, including terrorism, international relations policies, climate security, and peace and conflict studies, providing valuable resources for students, researchers, and scholars.

Also in attendance were DVC for Finance & Administration, Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a; DVC for Academic & Student Affairs, Prof. Anne Muigai; Major General (Rtd) Patrick Amogola; as well as directors, heads of departments, senior officers, faculty, and staff of the University.
