NDU-K HOSTS ZAMBIA DEFENCE FORCES FOR A BENCHMARKING EXERCISE 

Zambia Defence Forces (ZDF) delegation has successfully concluded a two-day benchmarking visit to the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K). The delegation led by Brigadier General Bjl Banda was received at the institution by Major General William Shume, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Research, Innovation and Security Studies, on behalf of Vice-Chancellor (VC) Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai.

The visit provided the delegation with an understanding of NDU-K’s  the capacities and capabilities in achieving operational and strategic goals. As a well established institution, NDU-K and its colleges foster a culture of research and intellectual rigor, contributing to knowledge that informs policy-making and strategic planning in Kenya and beyond.

Additionally, the visit facilitated the exchange of ideas aimed at strengthening partnerships in education and research in the defence and security sector.

In his remarks, Maj Gen Shume acknowledged the longstanding cordial relationship between the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Zambia Defence Forces (ZDF), which has enabled  the continous exchange of students between the two forces at various levels. He emphasized that such collaborations enhance bilateral interoperability and the ability to work cohesively. 

Highlighting the rapidly growing complexity of security challenges, he underscored the need for professional military education and quality research, to develop the necessary capabilities and capacities. He also reiterated NDU-K’s commitment to collaborating  partner with ZDF to uphold academic excellence and training  standards. 

“I’m pleased to note that the ZDF in its quest to establish its University considered to benchmark with us on governance structure, curriculum, research methodologies, and operational frameworks. We are committed to facilitating this important milestone that is aimed at boosting the African Military Education Program (AMEP),” Maj Gen Shume said.

Brigadier General Banda reaffirmed the importance of collaboration with NDU-K on education and security programmes. He expressed his commitment to strengthening partnerships in  research, faculty exchange, technical capabilities and curriculum development.

Also in attendance were DVC for Finance & Administration, Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a; DVC for Academic & Student Affairs, Prof. Anne Muigai; Major General (Rtd) Patrick Amogola; as well as directors, heads of departments, senior officers, faculty, and staff of the University.
