NDU-K, KMA FOOTBALL MATCH CELEBRATES KDF DAY, STRENGTHENS MILITARY CAMARADERIE
The spirit of unity, friendly rivalry and military camaraderie came alive as the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) faced the Kenya Military Academy (KMA) in a friendly football match to mark this year’s Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Day.
Beyond the contest on the pitch, the match provided an opportunity for personnel from the University and its college, KMA, to celebrate the occasion through sport, reinforcing the bonds of teamwork, discipline and shared purpose that define military service.
Conveying the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri’s message for KDF Day, the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a, underscored the importance of professionalism, resilience and teamwork in strengthening defence capabilities, supporting national development and advancing international peace support missions.
The message also highlighted the strategic importance of research and innovation in developing indigenous systems and technologies responsive to operational requirements. Such investments remain essential in enhancing defence capabilities and generating practical, sustainable solutions to emerging security challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, Major General Ng’ang’a emphasised the value of sporting engagements in strengthening relations between NDU-K and KMA. He noted that beyond competition, sports provide a platform for interaction, mutual respect and the development of trust among personnel, reinforcing the cohesion necessary for effective teamwork and professional collaboration.
As the two sides took to the pitch, the encounter reflected a broader institutional bond: KMA’s role as a college of NDU-K and the shared commitment to developing capable, disciplined and strategically minded military leaders. The friendly match demonstrated how sport can bring people together, nurture healthy competition and strengthen the sense of belonging that unites the University and its college.
The event added a sporting dimension to the KDF Day commemorations, affirming that military strength is built not only through operational readiness and professional training, but also through unity, shared values and enduring camaraderie.
