NDU-K Launches Process to Onboard National Police Leadership Academy as a Constituent College
The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) has initiated the process of onboarding the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA) as a constituent college, further advancing the University's efforts to strengthen professional military and security education in Kenya.
The milestone was marked by the inaugural meeting of the Working Committee established to oversee the Academy's transition into the University's academic and governance framework. The committee, chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Anne Muigai, brings together representatives from NDU-K and the National Police Service to guide the implementation process.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Muigai underscored the strategic importance of the initiative, noting that integrating the Academy into NDU-K will strengthen police leadership training by embedding it within the University's quality academic programmes and governance structures. She emphasized the need for a collaborative and carefully coordinated approach to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition.
Welcoming the committee, the Commandant of the National Police Leadership Academy, Mr. David K. Mathiu, AIG, described the engagement as a defining moment in the Academy's institutional development. He reaffirmed the Academy's commitment to working closely with NDU-K throughout the onboarding process to achieve the shared vision of becoming a constituent college of the University.
As part of its inaugural sitting, the committee outlined its operational framework by reviewing its Terms of Reference, developing an implementation roadmap, and establishing reporting mechanisms that will guide the execution of its mandate.
The onboarding process reflects the growing collaboration between NDU-K and the National Police Service in strengthening higher education for the security sector and developing a new generation of strategic leaders equipped to address emerging national and regional security challenges.
