NDU-K MARKS FIFTH ANNIVERSARY WITH COMMUNITY OUTREACH AT A NAKURU CHILDREN’S HOME
As part of a series of activities lined up for a month-long campaign to celebrate its fifth anniversary- and in fulfilment of its community outreach mandate- the National Defence University–Kenya(NDU-K) paid a heartfelt visit to the Israel Faith Children’s Home in Nakuru County.
The visit was not just ceremonial but a moment of genuine human connection and compassion. It marked a significant milestone in the University’s journey of excellence, demonstrating its commitment to extending impact beyond academia into the wider community.
The NDU-K team spent meaningful time with the children, engaging them in games, sharing conversations, and offering words of encouragement. Laughter filled the air, and for a time, the barriers of circumstance gave way to a shared sense of joy, hope and belonging.
In a gesture aimed at making a lasting difference, the University donated essential supplies, including foodstuffs, clothing and sanitary items, to support the children’s welfare and the home’s daily operations.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Brigadier Mboya Mwenga underscored the importance of service to society, noting that the University’s role extends beyond academic excellence to nurturing values of compassion, responsibility, and national development.
He affirmed that such engagements reflect the institution’s commitment to shaping not only skilled professionals but also socially conscious citizens.
The visit was warmly received by the home’s community. Staff and children, led by Director Nancy Mukami, expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting the positive impact such engagements have in uplifting the children’s spirits and improving their well-being.
Founded in 2013, the Israel Faith Children’s Home continues to provide shelter, care, and hope to more than 90 children from across the country.
This initiative underscores NDU-K’s enduring commitment to corporate social responsibility and its dedication to making a meaningful impact beyond its core mandate as it marks five years of exemplary service.
For the University, the visit served as a powerful reminder that true excellence is measured not only by achievements, but by the lives touched along the way.
