NDU-K MARKS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY WITH CALL FOR GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWERMENT

The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) fraternity joined the global community in commemorating International Women’s Day, reaffirming its commitment to advancing gender equality, empowerment and inclusion within the University and the broader defence and security sector.

NDU-K has continued to commemorate the International Women's Day marked on Sunday, 8 March, in a one week campaign dedicated to celebrate the achievements of women and strengthen initiatives that promote their empowerment across the University.

This year’s campaign theme, “Give to Gain,” underscores the importance of mentorship, collaboration and investment in women as key drivers of inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The event was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, who commended the vital contributions of women in leadership, academia and national development. He emphasized the need to cultivate supportive environments that enable women to thrive, assume leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to institutional progress.

The Vice-Chancellor further assured women staff of the University leadership’s continued commitment to supporting their professional growth and empowerment as part of efforts to accelerate gender parity within the institution.

Major General Joyce Sitienei, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Centre for Security and Strategic Studies (DVC CSSS), noted that empowering women through education, mentorship and equal opportunities is critical in building resilient institutions and advancing sustainable development. She encouraged the NDU-K fraternity to continue championing inclusivity and initiatives that uplift women across all sectors.

The commemoration brought together Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Directors, Faculty and University Staff, providing an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while reaffirming the University’s commitment to fostering a culture grounded in equality, diversity and mutual respect.
