NDU-K PARTICIPATES IN MENTORSHIP OF CANDIDATES
National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) recently participated in a mentorship programme for form four candidates at Koelel Forces Academy (KFA), Gilgil.
The candidates were taken through various topics, which included; proper time management, goal setting and career choice amongst others.
The event, attended by parents and guardians, also provided a useful platform to evaluate and scrutinize academic progress, challenges and possible intervention strategies geared towards achieving the candindate’s set targets.
NDU-K has identified schools as avenues for reaching out to Kenya’s young generations through mentorship and life skills education, founded on its mandate, mission and vision. This, it is hoped, will promote conducive learning environments, help build resilience and a growth mindset, and motivate learners to focus on academic excellence.
During the event, Board of Management Vice-Chairperson, Major Tonny Njagi, from NDU-K, underscored the need for all stakeholders to collaborate in creating a conducive environment for students and mould them to produce quality grades. He assured the school of NDU-K’s support in achieving its mission.
On his part, the school’s Chief Principal, Mr. Philemon Obenge, stated that the school has put together a plan to produce excellent results, noting that he is optimistic that success will be realized through collaborative efforts from all the stakeholders.
In his keynote address, Mr. Alfred Arita, the guest speaker, implored the students to believe in themselves adding that self-esteem is the key towards achieving one's goals. He encouraged students to maximize aany opportunity they get in school since the current digital era requires individuals who are able to solve emerging problems in society.
An invited guest speaker, Mr. Jomo Muigai, urged the students to be ambitious and goal oriented in their academic pursuit, a feat he said, would be possible through increased investment in hard work and discipline.
