NDU–K STEERS ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AS SENATE AND BOARD OF EXAMINERS CONVENE
The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU–K) convened its 17th Regular Senate Meeting alongside the 13th Regular Senate Board of Examiners Meeting at the University Seat in Lanet, Nakuru County. During the meetings, senior leadership from the University and its Colleges assembled to deliberate on the next phase of academic quality, institutional growth and strategic impact- marking a defining moment in the University as it celebrates its Five-Year Anniversary.
Both sessions were presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, who commended members for their professionalism, teamwork and unwavering commitment to academic integrity that has propelled the University to advance its mandate in defence and security education, training and research.
The Vice-Chancellor celebrated the momentum generated by the 3rd Graduation Ceremony, where 556 students graduated - more than double the previous cohort. He highlighted the historic graduation of the first 157 Bachelor of Science in Defence and Security Studies students, the launch of the Alumni Association by the Chancellor and the submission of high-impact research on misinformation and disinformation in governance and femicide which has elevated NDU–K’s relevance in policy generation.
As the University marks five years since establishment, Lt Gen Tarus called on the Senate to consolidate gains and sharpen focus, encouraging the consistent use of the “NDU-K@5” mark as a symbol of institutional maturity and renewed commitment to excellence.
The deliberations proposed new programmes and the planned admission of the National Police Leadership Academy as a constituent college.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized fairness, transparency and strict adherence to University statutes to safeguard academic standards and the credibility of NDU–K qualifications.
As a way forward, the VC noted that the resolutions adopted would continue to shape NDU–K’s trajectory as a leading centre of excellence in defence, security and strategic studies, anchored in quality, relevance and national service.
