NDU-K Strengthens Human Capital to Advance Its Strategic Mandate
The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) takes pride in its human resource as a critical pillar in the fulfilment of its institutional mandate. Guided by a commitment to professionalism, integrity, teamwork, discipline and excellence, the University continues to invest in its human capital as the driving force behind its mission of developing strategic leaders through education, research and innovation in support of national security and development.
This commitment has been demonstrated through a robust weeklong induction programme for newly employed and posted staff, aimed at equipping them with a comprehensive understanding of the University’s mandate, institutional culture, policies, procedures and strategic priorities.
The programme provides an important platform for familiarising the staff with NDU-K’s organisational structure, core functions and operating environment, while fostering a shared understanding of the values, standards and expectations that underpin professional conduct, institutional cohesion and effective service delivery.
Officiating the programme, the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, welcomed the new members of staff and underscored their important role in strengthening the University’s capacity to deliver on its strategic mandate.
Lieutenant General Tarus urged the newly employed and posted staff to embrace NDU-K’s institutional values and harness their diverse knowledge, skills and experience to enhance the University’s academic, administrative and support functions. He emphasised that professionalism, integrity, teamwork, discipline and commitment are essential to building an institution capable of delivering effectively on its strategic mandate.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that every member of staff has a vital role to play in NDU-K’s continued growth and in advancing its aspiration to be a centre of excellence in higher education, research, innovation and strategic leadership development. He emphasised that the strength of an institution is ultimately reflected in the competence, character and commitment of its people.
He further encouraged the staff to work collaboratively, uphold high professional standards and contribute to a culture of excellence and continuous improvement, noting that each individual’s contribution is important to the collective achievement of NDU-K’s mission and strategic priorities.
As part of the induction programme, the newly employed and posted staff will undertake familiarisation visits to NDU-K’s colleges. The visits will provide an opportunity to gain a broader understanding of the University’s organisational structure, operations, academic programmes and institutional linkages, while promoting cohesion, knowledge sharing and collaboration across the University.
The induction marks an important step in integrating the new members of staff into the NDU-K community and reinforcing a shared sense of purpose. By investing in its human resource and nurturing a culture founded on professionalism, integrity, teamwork, discipline and commitment, NDU-K continues to build the institutional capacity required to advance its mandate and contribute to national security and development.
