The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU–K) convened its 13th Regular Council Meeting at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC), reaffirming its commitment to strengthening governance, advancing institutional growth and enhancing strategic oversight.

Guided by the Council's strategic oversight and the steadfast support of its leadership, NDU-K remains well-positioned to advance its mandate of developing visionary leaders, strategic thinkers and security professionals capable of addressing emerging national, regional and global challenges.

The meeting was chaired by the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF), Lieutenant General John Omenda, on behalf of the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) and Chairperson of the NDU-K Council, General Charles Kahariri. In his remarks, Lt Gen Omenda underscored the Council's unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that promote academic excellence, sound institutional governance, research, innovation, and the university's contribution to national security and development.

Highlighting recent milestones, Lt Gen Omenda acknowledged the Council's steadfast support, noting the successful implementation of key resolutions from the 12th Regular Council Meeting, sustained progress in academic programme development and the strengthening of strategic partnerships that continue to elevate NDU-K's profile both regionally and internationally.

He observed that these achievements reflect the university's steady progress in fulfilling its mandate of producing highly skilled professionals, strategic thinkers, and policy leaders capable of responding to the complex security environment.

The VCDF commended the University leadership for its unwavering commitment to advancing training, capacity building and research in national security and strategy, noting that NDU-K continues to distinguish itself as a premier institution for defence and security studies within the region and beyond.

The Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, reaffirmed the University's commitment to implementing the Council's guidance and recommendations. He emphasized that Council directives remain central to shaping the institution's strategic priorities and sustaining excellence in defence and security education, research and capacity building.

During the session, the Council reviewed progress on key programmes and initiatives and deliberated on strategic matters critical to the university's continued growth and effective mandate delivery. Agenda items included updates on institutional partnerships, academic programme development, and matters arising from the 12th Regular Council Meeting.

The Council also considered reports on finance, human resource management, research activities, infrastructure development and the ongoing implementation of the University's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, all of which are integral to strengthening institutional efficiency and long-term sustainability.

The 13th Regular Council Meeting reflects NDU-K's steadfast dedication to excellence and its proactive approach to building a responsive, resilient institution capable of addressing evolving defence and security challenges.
