Centre for Strategy & Security Studies
The CSSS was established in 2010 at the National Defence College (NDC) as a ‘Think Tank’, to strengthen research elements required for deepening of participants understanding of the national, regional and international dimensions of security and conflict in the region thereby stimulating greater public awareness on national and international development in the region.
The CSSS is also charged with the responsibility of offering policy makers a body of informed opinion on security related issues that are critical in the transformation of Kenya’s national security posture. The information disseminated is based on interrogation of the defence, foreign policy, conflicts and broader security considerations.
The goal of the CSSS is to enable interaction between scholars and stakeholders/practitioners to enhance research opportunities, academic excellence, solving real-world problems, creating knowledge and disseminating it. The CSSS engages the wider public through symposia, seminars and workshops and disseminates its Research findings in the biannual National Security: Journal of National Defence University - Kenya. The CSSS encourages all Masters and Phd candidates to publish their thesis articles in the Journal in order to meet the academic requirements for courses undertaken.
