NATIONAL DEFENCE COLLEGE PARTICIPANTS VISIT NDU-K

The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) today hosted the National Defence College (NDC) Course 27-2024/2025 participants at the University Seat, Lanet.

The NDC staff and course participants, led by the College Deputy Commandant Military Major General Stephen Mutuku and Deputy Commandant Civil Amb Simon Nabukwesi, were on a induction tour at the NDU-K where they were apprised on University’s mandate of training and building capacity as well as conducting research and innovation in the niche area of National security and strategy.

NDC, a College of NDU-K, runs an NDU-K Master of Arts as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in National Security and Strategy Courses designed to prepare the participants, comprising senior military officers, senior public servants and their counterparts from allied countries, for higher responsibilities. Further, it enhances Whole-of-Government effort in addressing national security matters.

In his address to the visiting cohort, NDU-K Vice- Chancellor (VC) Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai emphasized the critical role of NDU-K in proffering practical solutions to contemporary and future security challenges through sharpening skills in strategic and analytical thinking as well as conducting research.

The VC further highlighted the various dynamic security challenges and the need for flexible and knowledgeable personnel coupled with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary defence issues to remedy the ever-evolving security complexities. He also encouraged the participants to actively engage with experts and professionals at the university , in seeking to learn and understand the practical applications of the theories they study at the college.
“NDU-K is committed to providing you with the best learning experience, ranging from the lectures and resource personnel who will assist you develop the required skills and knowledge,” added the VC.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academic & Students Affairs Prof. Anne Muigai expressed optimism that the induction visit would enhance the students’ understanding of academic endavours while at the University, noting that good induction helps students settle down faster.

The cohort is made up of 67 participants drawn from Kenya Defence Forces, Ministries, Departments & Agencies, and allied countries in Africa and Asia, reflecting a commitment to National, regional and global security cooperation.

Present during the event were DVC Researche, Innovation & Security Studies Major General William Shume, DVC Finaance & Administration Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a, as well as Faculty and staff from the NDU-K and NDC.
