SENIOR JOINT COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE PARTICIPANTS VISIT NDU-K
The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) today hosted participants of the Senior Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) Course 41–2025/2026 at the University Seat in Lanet, Nakuru County.
The visiting team, led by Lieutenant Colonel Salim Wamukoya, comprised faculty and 95 course participants drawn from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and allied nations across Africa and other Continents. The visit formed part of their induction tour and aimed at deepening their understanding of NDU-K’s mandate in training, capacity building, research, and innovation within the niche domain of national security and strategy.
In his address, NDU-K Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, underscored the University's pivotal role in providing practical solutions to contemporary and emerging security challenges. He emphasized the importance of cultivating strategic and analytical thinking among defence professionals and encouraged participants to engage with university experts to explore the real-world application of theories studied at the College.
The VC further highlighted the dynamic nature of today’s security landscape, stressing the need for adaptive, knowledgeable personnel who possess a comprehensive grasp of modern defence and security issues.
On her part, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Student Affairs), Professor Anne Muigai, expressed confidence that the visit would enhance participants’ appreciation of academic inquiry and its relevance to national security. She reaffirmed the University's commitment to expanding its capacity to support national development and security through education and research.
JCSC, a tri-service college of NDU-K, trains mid-level commanders and staff officers from KDF and allied nations. The program prepares participants to effectively plan, lead, and support operations at tactical, operational, and strategic levels.
Also present during the event were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance & Administration) Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a, the University Registrar, Directors, Heads of Departments, and faculty and staff from both NDU-K and JCSC.
