NDU-K HOLDS MATRICULATION CEREMONY FOR THE DEFENCE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES (DCHS)
The National Defence University- Kenya (NDU-K) has today, matriculated the second cohort of the Bachelor of Nursing with Military Health programme (BScN/MH) in a historic and colorful event at the institution’s main campus in Lanet, Nakuru. The ceremony, embodying NDU-K’s commitment to equipping defence and security professionals with top-tier education and training, was presided over by the University’s Vice-Chancellor (VC) Lieutenant General David Tarus.
During the ceremony, the matriculants took an oath to abide by the rules and regulations governing the University making them bona fide students. They were further taken through an orientation session to familiarize themselves with the institution.
In his address, the VC, emphasized the importance of having defence personnel who are not only skilled but also analytical thinkers capable of contributing to both national and global peace. He expressed confidence that through research, innovation, and technology at NDU-K, the nation could enhance its resilience in a dynamic security environment, thereby securing national development and prosperity.
“Our training will provide you with all the skills necessary to think critically, act decisively, while serving effortlessly. The path that you are about to undertake will not be an easy one. It will stretch your limits so be ready,” said Lt Gen Tarus.
He further observed that a robust healthcare infrastructure not only safeguards the physical and mental well-being of the Defence and Security personnel but also enhances their operational readiness and effectiveness in safeguarding the county's borders and its sovereignty.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academic & Students Affairs Prof. Ann Muigai stated that NDU-K is committed to excellence in education, research and service in bolstering health capability and shaping the future of military healthcare system for generation to come.
Colonel (Dr.) Margaret Wambui, Principal of the College, affirmed the College’s commitment to creating a conducive learning environment to equip students with the necessary technical skills in their fields.
DCHS is a College of NDU-K mandated to train medical practitioners and build human intellectual capacity in health care provision for national security through provision of quality Medical education, research, innovation and leadership.
