NDU-K AND SRC CONDUCT MONITORING AND EVALUATION EXERCISE TO STRENGTHEN INSTITUTIONAL PERFORMANCE

The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K), in collaboration with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), conducted a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) exercise for university staff aimed at strengthening institutional performance, transparency and accountability.The exercise held at the University Seat sought to enhance compliance with relevant regulations and best practices, thereby promoting effective service delivery and institutional excellence.

The Monitoring and Evaluation exercise, spearheaded by SRC Commissioners Hon. Isaac Kipkemboi Meli and Mr. Abdullahi Abdi, forms part of SRC’s ongoing efforts to foster a culture of continuous improvement, transparency, and accountability.

In his Opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, NDU-K, Lieutenant General David Tarus underscored the significance of the exercise, noting that as an institution of strategic national importance, NDU-K stands to derive substantial value from structured  remuneration management  and productivity frameworks that support strategic decision-making, academic and operational excellence and accountability.

The Vice-Chancellor lauded SRC as a key strategic partner, emphasizing that the collaboration between the two institutions has significantly contributed to the University’s continuous improvement agenda, efficient human resource management, enhanced accountability and strengthened institutional capacity across various functional areas.

He further observed that the Monitoring and Evaluation engagement aligns closely with the NDU-K Strategic Plan, which prioritizes institutional performance, prudent resource utilization, quality service delivery and results-oriented management. The VC noted that the exercise would support the University in securing a more competitive and market-aligned remuneration structure, thereby enhancing its ability to attract, motivate and retain highly qualified personnel.

In their remarks, the SRC Commissioners highlighted the strategic importance of the exercise as part of the Commission’s constitutional oversight mandate to ensure prudent management, optimal utilization of public resources and effective service delivery within public institutions. They emphasized that M&E engagements are critical for identifying gaps, sharing best practices, sensitizing stakeholders and supporting institutions to align with national standards and policy frameworks.

The opening session was attended by Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Directors, Heads of Departments, faculty members and staff of the University, among other participants.
