NDU-K SIGNS MOU WITH CYBER SECURITY INSTITUTE TO FOSTER SAFE DIGITAL SPACE

The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Cyber Security Institute (CSI) to strengthen collaboration in capacity building, curriculum development, research, professional training and knowledge exchange in the field of cybersecurity and related disciplines.

The partnership is anchored on shared values of integrity, innovation, professional excellence and service to the nation. It reflects a growing recognition that cybersecurity is not the responsibility of a single institution, but a collective endeavor requiring trust, coordination and sustained engagement among stakeholders.

Speaking during the signing ceremony at the University Seat, the Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General David Tarus emphasized that the agreement will help nurture a new generation of leaders and practitioners equipped to anticipate, prevent and respond to cyber threats at national, regional and global levels.

He noted that the MOU underscores the university’s commitment to preparing professionals who can safeguard Kenya’s digital infrastructure and contribute to global cybersecurity resilience.

The Chief Executive Officer of CSI, Dr. Mark Matunga, who led the Institute’s delegation, reaffirmed CSI’s commitment to advancing studies and research on national security and strategy. He highlighted the importance of exploring emerging fields such as quantum computing, which offers new possibilities for solving complex problems, and artificial intelligence, which continues to reshape the digital landscape.

Dr. Matunga stressed that the partnership will promote critical technologies and ensure that knowledge on AI and safe digital spaces is shared globally.

This collaboration positions Kenya as a leader in cybersecurity capacity building within Africa. By combining academic rigor with practical training, the partnership strengthens national resilience against cyber threats and enhances preparedness for future challenges.

The MOU is expected to serve as a model for other institutions seeking to balance national security priorities with technological innovation, while fostering regional and international cooperation in the digital domain.

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Centre for Security and Strategic Studies), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), the Director of Security and Strategy, the Director of Legal Services and the University Chaplain.
