Maj Gen Thomas N Ng'ang'a MGH EBS HSC 'ndu' 'psc' (USA)

Maj Gen T N Ng’ang’a was commissioned in August 1991 after successfully completing his officer cadet training in Kenya.

He pursued general and professional Naval Training as a seaman officer and continued his service in the Kenya Navy Fleet where he held various appointments ranging from Navigating Officer, Fleet Admin Officer, Principal Warfare Officer to flag lieutenant.  He specialized in Long Navigation and Direction and later specialized in naval warfare which gave him lead service as a warfare officer on board ships rising to be a ships Commanding Officer in the Kenya Navy Fleet.

He attended the Naval Staff Course at the Naval War College (USA) in 2003 and later appointed the Commandant Kenya Naval Training School as a Lt Colonel. He attended National Defence University in Washington DC and graduated with a Master’s degree in International Security Studies in July 2013.

In 2013 he was appointed as Chief of Logistics at the Navy Headquarters and three years later served as the Defence Advisor to the High Commission of Kenya in Pretoria, South Africa. He served as the Chief of Operations at Navy Headquarters on return from diplomatic duties in July 2019.

In 2020 he served as the Base Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe as a Brigadier and later served at the National Defence College (NDC) as a Senior Directing Staff Navy (SDS).  In May 2023, he was appointed Base Commander KNB Manda bay.

On 8 March 2024 he was promoted to Major General and appointed the Commander Kenya Navy, a position he served till 8 May 2024 when he was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) Admin and Finance at the National Defence University Kenya.

He is a laureate of the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH), Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) and Head of State Commendation (HSC) decorations

Maj Gen T N Ng’ang’a is a family man. He is married and blessed with a son and two daughters.
