12TH NDU-K COUNCIL MEETING CHARTS UNIVERSITY’S STRATEGIC DIRECTION
The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU–K) convened its 12th Regular Council Meeting at the University Seat in Lanet, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening governance, advancing institutional growth and enhancing strategic oversight.
The meeting was chaired by the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF), Lieutenant General John Omenda, on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chairperson of the NDU-K Council, General Charles Kahariri. In his remarks, Lt Gen Omenda underscored the Council’s continued commitment to supporting initiatives that promote academic excellence, sound institutional governance, research, innovation and the University’s contribution to national security and development.
Highlighting recent milestones, Lt Gen Omenda acknowledged the Council’s steadfast support, citing the successful conduct of the University’s Third Graduation Ceremony, the launch of the Alumni Constitution by the Chancellor and the submission of two key research reports to the Chancellor, on the impact of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation on governance and on the femicide crisis in Kenya.
He noted that these achievements reflect the steady progress the University continues to make in fulfilling its mandate of developing highly skilled professionals, strategic thinkers and policy leaders.
The VCDF commended the University leadership for its unwavering commitment to advancing training, capacity building and research in national security and strategy, noting that NDU-K continues to distinguish itself as a premier institution both regionally and internationally.
The Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to implementing the Council’s guidance and recommendations, emphasizing that Council directives remain central to shaping the institution’s strategic priorities and sustaining excellence in defence and security education, research and capacity building.
During the session, the Council reviewed progress on key programmes and initiatives, and deliberated on strategic matters, including the proposed admission of the National Police Leadership Academy as a constituent College of NDU-K, among other agenda items.
Additionally, the Council considered reports on finance, human resource management, research activities, institutional partnerships, infrastructure development, and the implementation of the University’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
The 12th Regular Council Meeting reflects NDU–K’s steadfast commitment to excellence and its proactive approach to building a responsive, resilient institution capable of addressing evolving defence and security challenges.
