NDU-K ADVANCES INSTITUTIONAL EXCELLENCE THROUGH IMPEMENTATION OF QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the effectiveness and efficiency of its internal controls and processes through the implementation of a Quality Management System (QMS) and the institutionalisation of a robust Risk Management Framework.

In line with this commitment, the University has strategically embarked on aligning its systems with globally recognised standards advancing towards quality management of systems. This initiative is expected to enhance the institution’s mandate of empowering defence and security professionals through world-class education and training, thereby strengthening national capacity in safeguarding strategic interests.

The pursuit of ISO 9001:2015 certification- a milestone that comes at a significant moment as NDU-K marks its fifth anniversary speaks of the University’s steady growth and institutional maturity over the past five years, underscoring its commitment to embedding a culture of quality, accountability and continuous improvement as it consolidates its position as a centre of excellence in defence and security education.

Speaking while presiding over the Quality Management System (QMS) and risk documentation at the University seat, NDU-K Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General David Tarus described the pursuit of ISO 9001:2015 as a significant milestone in reinforcing institutional governance, accountability, and service delivery.

He noted that a well-structured quality management system, supported by an effective risk management framework, will enable the University to consistently deliver high-quality education, training, and research outputs aligned with its core mandate.

Lieutenant General Tarus further emphasized that integrating quality and risk management practices across all University operations will enhance operational resilience, improve decision-making processes, and promote continuous improvement in line with national best practices.

He urged staff participating in the implementation process to fully embrace the training, adhere to compliance requirements, and foster a culture of quality, efficiency, and proactive risk identification in support of the University’s strategic objectives.

The week-long training underscored NDU-K’s continued commitment to institutional excellence and its strategic focus on strengthening governance, compliance, and service delivery across all functions.
