National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) continues to position itself as a centre of strategic thought, leadership and knowledge in support of national security and development. In advancing this mandate, the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, led a delegation from the University on an official visit to BometUniversity, where he engaged the University community on the critical nexus between youth, education and national security.

The visit underscored NDU-K’s commitment to strategic engagement and partnerships with institutions of higher learning. The Vice-Chancellor was received by the Vice-Chancellor of Bomet University, Prof. Charles Mutai, and toured various University facilities before delivering a public lecture titled “Youth, Education and National Security in a Changing World.”

In his lecture, Lieutenant General Tarus underscored the critical role of education in shaping informed, responsible and resilient young people capable of navigating an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world. He emphasised that an educated and empowered youth population is central to national development, social stability and national security.

He further highlighted the need to equip young people with knowledge, skills and values that enable them to contribute meaningfully to society and respond effectively to emerging challenges. He noted that institutions of higher learning have a vital role in nurturing young people who are not only academically competent, but also conscious of their responsibilities to the nation and the wider global community.

The engagement provided an important platform for sharing knowledge and perspectives on youth, education and national security, while highlighting the role of universities in addressing emerging national, regional and global challenges through education, research, innovation and strategic partnerships.

The visit further strengthened the relationship between NDU-K and Bomet University and opened opportunities for enhanced collaboration and knowledge exchange in support of education, research and national development.
