RESEARCH FOR ENHANCED HEALTHCARE

National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Major General Said Farah has underscored the importance of medical research saying it unlocks new insights and solutions to the complex challenges facing healthcare providers and military personnel.

The VC observed that a robust healthcare infrastructure not only safeguards the physical and mental well-being of the soldiers but also enhances their operational readiness and effectiveness in safeguarding the county's borders and its sovereignty.

The VC made the remarks during the opening of the 2nd Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Medical Scientific Conference at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies in Nairobi, where he was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Anne Muigai.

He reiterated the importance of collaboration between the NDU-K, through its College, the Defence College of Health and Sciences, and Directorate of Medical service (DMS) noting that it will enhance expertise and resource mobilisation to help address complex healthcare issues with a multifaceted approach, informed by diverse perspectives and specialized knowledge.

The VC added that NDU-K is committed to excellence in education, research and service in bolstering force capability and shaping the future of military medicine for generation to come.

The two-day event themed 'Enhancing Force Capability Through Quality Health Care and Research' brought together both military and civilian medical practitioners to connect, learn and grow by engaging across the stakeholder sub-disciplines, as a measure of staying updated on best practices.

Present during the Conference were the Vice Chief of Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi, who was Chief Guest, Director of Medical Services, Major General (Dr) George Ng'ang'a, Chief Medical Officer, Brigadier (Dr) Charles King’ori and various other military senior officers, officers and guests.
