University Management Board Reviews Key Milestones as NDU-K Marks Fifth Anniversary

The National Defence University-Kenya has continued to strengthen its academic, administrative, and infrastructural development agenda as it marks five years of excellence and dedicated service to the nation. Through its seven colleges, the university has remained committed to delivering quality academic programmes, professional military education, research, and strategic policy studies that support Kenya’s national security and development priorities.

Over the past five years, the institution has steadily expanded its academic footprint through curriculum development, enhancement of research and innovation capacity, modernization of learning infrastructure, and strengthening of collaborations with local and international institutions in pursuit of academic excellence and strategic partnerships.

These achievements were highlighted during the 19th University Management Board (UMB) meeting held at the University seat, where members reviewed the university’s progress and deliberated on key administrative, academic, and strategic matters aimed at strengthening the institution’s mandate in higher education, defence training, and research.

Speaking during the meeting, the Vice Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus commended the unwavering commitment demonstrated by university leadership, college heads, directors, faculty members, and administrative staff in ensuring the effective implementation of university programmes and activities. He acknowledged the collective efforts made towards strengthening institutional governance, enhancing service delivery, and upholding high standards of professionalism, accountability, and discipline across the university.

Lt Gen Tarus further observed that the dedication, teamwork, and resilience exhibited by various departments have contributed immensely to the realization of the university’s strategic objectives and continued institutional growth. He emphasized the importance of sustaining a culture of collaboration, innovation, and integrity as the university advances its mission of becoming a premier centre of excellence in defence, security, and strategic studies within the region and beyond.

The Board reviewed human resource matters, performance contracting, ICT integration, and ongoing infrastructure development projects geared towards enhancing operational effectiveness and creating a conducive environment for learning, research, and professional training. Emphasis was equally placed on prudent resource management, institutional accountability, and the implementation of policies that promote efficiency and sustainable growth.

The 19th UMB meeting, attended by senior leadership from the university and its colleges, coincided with the institution’s ongoing month-long celebrations marking the University’s fifth anniversary that feature a series of activities showcasing the institutions  achievements, milestones, and contributions to national development over the past five years.

The meeting reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to advancing the university’s vision through effective governance, strategic leadership, and collaborative partnerships as the institution continues to strengthen its position as a leading centre for defence and security education in the region.
