National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) has underscored the importance of building resilient institutions through the training of a new generation of ideologically grounded and strategically aware leaders.
 
The University Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, delivering a Lecture of Opportunity on Strategic Leadership to participants of Course 28–2025/26 at the National Defence College (NDC), Karen, Nairobi, called for practical and intellectual imperatives of strategic leadership.
 
During the session, Lt Gen Tarus emphasized the need to nurture military and policy professionals who are able to blend operational capability with strategic thinking, noting that such leadership is vital to securing the country’s future.
 
The VC observed the importance of the ability to think beyond immediate tactical concerns, integrate security and development objectives and foster cooperation across government institutions and international partners.
 
Reiterating NDU-K and it’s colleges critical role in equipping military officers from Kenya and allied nations to address national, regional and global security, Lt Gen Tarus called on the course participants to actively apply the knowledge gained during their training.
 
The lecture formed part of a broader series of high-level engagements at the National Defence College, featuring distinguished leaders such as Heads of State, senior government officials and international experts, aimed at enriching the leadership capacity of the College’s elite cohorts.
 
Lt Gen Tarus was accompanied by the Commandant of the National Defence College, Lt Gen Juma Mwinyikai, alongside senior military officers and NDC faculty members.
