Defence Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Soipan Tuya, conducted a familiarization visit to the Defence College of Health Sciences (DCHS) in Nairobi. DCHS, a College of the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K), offers various medical programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Military Health, Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing, Perioperative Nursing, and Clinical Medicine and Surgery (Anesthesia).

The visit aimed at acquainting Hon. Tuya with the College's mandate, which focuses on building intellectual capacity in healthcare by providing quality medical education, research, innovation, and leadership.

During her tour, she received a comprehensive briefing on the College's objectives, capabilities, and its role as a center of excellence in medical training and research for national security.

Hon. Tuya commended the College Principal, Col Wambui and the College leadership for their outstanding efforts in supporting the well-being of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel. She emphasized that a robust healthcare infrastructure is vital for ensuring the physical and mental health of soldiers, which in turn enhances their operational readiness and effectiveness in safeguarding the nation's borders and sovereignty.

She further encouraged the DCHS leadership to expand their scope by offering more quality training programs in the medical field. She assured that the MOD leadership would continue to provide the necessary support, including additional classrooms, staffrooms, and a simulation/skills laboratory.

The visit highlights the Ministry of Defence's commitment to the health and well-being of military personnel and their dependents.
