The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) officially launched Volume 2, Issue 1 (2024) of its National Security Journal at the University Seat in Lanet, Nakuru County. The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai.

Themed “Enhancing Cybersecurity for National Development,” the journal emphasizes the importance of private sector partnerships in cybersecurity. It highlights that such collaborations are essential for raising awareness among cybersecurity actors and recommends periodic joint assessments of systems to ensure robust cybersecurity measures. The journal serves as a platform for sharing research findings from the university community, security agencies, scholars, and industry experts.

In his remarks during the event, Lt. Gen. Mutai stressed that academic journals play a critical role in forming scholarly communities, with universities at the forefront due to their responsibility to drive academic inquiry and address challenges affecting society. He described the journal as a testament to NDU-K's commitment to fostering a culture of research and intellectual rigor, reflecting its efforts to contribute to knowledge that informs policy-making and strategic planning in Kenya and beyond. He also encouraged military scholars to publish continually, as scholarly output is a key measure of the university's success.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) for Research, Innovation & Security Studies, Major General William Shume, reiterated that NDU-K plays a vital role in shaping discourse around national and regional security issues, particularly in cybersecurity. He highlighted that the journal exemplifies the university's commitment to its mission of conducting research and innovation in security and strategy to enhance national security and development.

The launch of this journal marks another milestone in NDU-K's ongoing contribution to building a secure and peaceful Kenya, supporting accelerated national security and development.
