The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) held its 8th Regular Council Meeting today at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen, Nairobi. IPSTC, a College of NDU-K, hosted the meeting that aimed to review key decisions supporting NDU-K's growth and strategic direction.

Among the main agenda items were the Performance Contract for the 2024/25 Financial Year and the establishment of the Defence Intelligence Academy (DIA) as a new College of NDU-K.

The Chief of the Defence Forces and Chairperson of the NDU-K Council, General Charles Kahariri, commended the university’s leadership for its continuous growth and dedication to its mission of training, capacity building, and research in national security and strategy. He encouraged the Vice-Chancellor and staff to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to address current and emerging challenges.

General Kahariri praised the Council’s support in helping NDU-K reach new heights, citing the recent publication of Volume 2 of the NDU-K National Security Journal and the successful hosting of Africa Commandants Conference as milestones that highlight the institution's academic progress.

NDU-K’s Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, announced the upcoming 2nd NDU-K Graduation and Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for November 2024. The event will be officiated by NDU-K Chancellor, His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces.

The Council meeting reaffirmed NDU-K’s commitment to high standards in defense education and community involvement, further solidifying its role in shaping Kenya's defense and security landscape.

Among those who attended included the Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General John Omenda, Service Commanders, and other Council members.
