NDU-K CHAMPIONS ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY IN NATIONAL TREE PLANTING INITIATIVE
The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) actively participated in the Nationwide Tree Planting drive, "Mazingira Day," joining Kenyans in efforts to promote environmental sustainability.Â
The event, held at the University grounds in Lanet and Sururu Forest, Nakuru County, resulted in the planting of over 60,000 seedlings.
This initiative aligns with the government’s broader objective to plant 15 billion trees by 2032, supporting efforts to combat deforestation and mitigate climate change as championed by H.E. Hon. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces and Chancellor, National Defence University-Kenya.
NDU-K's Director of Administration, Colonel S.K. Kimani, emphasized the importance of environmental consciousness and urged participants to actively contribute to restoring natural resources. He also stressed the need for long-term care of the planted trees to ensure their growth to maturity, noting the benefits this effort will bring to future generations.
The event was made possible through partnerships with Kenya Forest Services (KFS), Nakuru County Government, and Equity Bank, reflecting a collaborative approach to environmental conservation.
