The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU–K) convened its 18th University Management Board (UMB) Meeting at the University Seat in Lanet, Nakuru County, reaffirming its commitment to strong governance, strategic leadership and sustained institutional growth.

The meeting was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, who emphasized that robust governance structures and transparent accountability mechanisms remain central to enhancing institutional credibility and operational efficiency. He noted that a culture anchored in responsibility, integrity and collaboration is critical to positioning the University as a centre of excellence in defence and security studies.

Lt Gen Tarus further underscored the importance of teamwork across academic, administrative and support departments, observing that institutional cohesion not only drives innovation but also ensures the delivery of high-quality education, research and policy-relevant outputs in line with the University’s core mandate.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged Board members to build on the progress already achieved, particularly in advancing cutting-edge defence education, research and strategic policy solutions that respond to Kenya’s evolving and multidimensional security challenges, as well as those within the wider region.

The 18th UMB Meeting that was attended by the Senior Leadership from the University and its Colleges concluded with resolutions aimed at accelerating institutional transformation, strengthening governance and reinforcing NDU–K’s critical role in supporting national development and strategic leadership through defence and security scholarship.
