NDU-K HOLDS SIXTH REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) held its 6th Regular Council Meeting at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen. IPSTC is one of the seven Colleges of NDU-K.
Subject to its Charter, the Council is the governing body of the University on matters governance and management. Among its functions are monitoring and evaluating the implementation of strategies, policies, and the management criteria and plans of the University and also ensuring that the University complies with the Constitution, other relevant laws, regulations, governance practices, accounting and auditing standards.
During the meeting, Chief of the Defence Forces who also is the Chairperson of the University Council, General Francis Ogolla, noted that the University continued to execute its mandate through innovative academic programmes and cutting-edge research initiatives. 
He urged the Vice-Chancellor (VC) and his team to remain focused to ensure the University delivers on its mandate in accordance with its Charter and strive to embed best practices in its processes, noting that as the surest way to address the dynamic challenges within the society.
“We must ensure that our service delivery aligns with the highest standards of quality and efficiency, driven by a strong human resource capacity dedicated to fulfilling the University's mandate," said the CDF.
The Chairperson further emphasized on the adoption of innovation to ensure that the University grows in all aspects of academics and research within the limits of the human and capital resources available.
On his part, NDU-K Vice-Chancellor (VC) Major General Said Farah, informed the Council that, following the University’s entry into a Performance Contract with the Government of Kenya, for the first time, the University has upheld its performance commitment so far and has met performance targets set in the contract for the last two quarters of the financial year. 
He also reported on ongoing processes, which include the review of University structure and governance instruments and review of University Statutes that will soon be presented to Parliament and State Law for Gazettement. 
Present during the Council meeting were Council members who included Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi, Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General Peter Njiru, Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General John Omenda, Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Jimson Mutai, Ms. Agnes Shikuku, representing the DG NIS, Mr Charles Ogalo,  Prof Isaac Mbeche, and Dr Constansia Mumma-Martinon.
