NDU-K HOSTS CUE FOR ACCREDITATION OF FLAGSHIP POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) recently hosted a delegation from the Commission for University Education (CUE) as part of the accreditation process for two of its flagship postgraduate programmes. The Commission for University Education team, led by Prof. Urbanus Mutwiwa visited the National Defence College (NDC) and the Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC), both located in Karen, Nairobi.

The visit, facilitated by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Anne Muigai, marked a key milestone in the University’s academic development. NDC is preparing to launch a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in National Security and Strategy, while JCSC is gearing up to roll out a Master of Arts (MA) in Defence and Strategic Studies.

Prof. Muigai expressed gratitude to the Commission for its continued support and guidance, particularly during the University’s formative stages and throughout the chartering process. She noted that each engagement with the Commission has been a valuable learning experience, contributing significantly to NDU-K’s institutional growth and academic maturity.

The CUE team commended NDU-K for its dedication to excellence in defence and security education. Prof. Mutwiwa reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to working collaboratively with the University to promote academic quality, integrity, and relevance in higher education. The accreditation exercise involved a thorough evaluation of the academic infrastructure, curriculum design, faculty qualifications, and institutional resources supporting the two programmes. It also provided an opportunity for NDU-K to demonstrate the strength of its academic offerings, the competence of its faculty, and the impact of its graduates on national and regional security.

The visit underscores NDU-K’s strategic role in advancing defence and strategic studies, and its commitment to producing leaders equipped to respond to complex security challenges through rigorous, locally relevant, and globally informed education.
