NDU-K HOSTS NATIONAL SECURITY AWARENESS COURSE IN MEDICAL PRACTICE

The National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Vice-Chancellor (VC), Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, has emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between government agencies and non-state actors. He explained that such collaborations offer valuable insights and solutions to the increasingly complex security challenges facing the world today.

Highlighting the growing complexity of security issues, he stressed that these concerns have expanded globally, necessitating a cooperative, coordinated approach to address them effectively.

The VC made the remarks during the opening of the National Security Awareness in Medical Practice Course for Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC) at the University Seat, in Lanet, Nakuru, where he was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Research, Innovation and Security Studies, Major General William Shume.

Lieutenant General Mutai encouraged course participants to strengthen national security through a combination of knowledge, ethics, and strategic thinking. He noted that the skills gained during the course would significantly contribute to Kenya’s collective responsibility in safeguarding its interests, both domestically and internationally.

In his remarks, KMPDC Chairperson, Prof. Stanley Khainga, expressed gratitude for the well-rounded training program and called for more collaborations between the two institutions. He expressed hope that the course would help shape a better strategic direction and deepen understanding of national security issues.

On his part, Dr. David Kariuki, the CEO of KMPDC, pointed out that the training represents a key milestone in developing a deeper understanding of the vital link between medical practice and national security. He noted that the course aligns with the whole-of-government approach to national security, enabling both institutions to collaborate in promoting national values and addressing healthcare security challenges.

The National Security Awareness program was designed by the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies (CSSS) a directorate under NDU-K, to foster a unified understanding among Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and Counties (MDACs) on fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.
