Four-day workshops on Pedagogy and Publishing for NDU-K staff, came to a close on Friday, 14 June 2024.

The workshops, the first on Course Design, Facilitation and Assessment and the second on Academic Publishing were first, tailored towards improving skill levels of NDU-K staff in developing transformative curricula and effective facilitation of learning and assessment. The workshops also focused on innovative curriculum design and constructive alignment of the university curriculum with its mandate, vision and mission. The second phase of training, covered publishing of academic material, took participants through identification of high impact journals, smart journal selection strategies, how to use Orchid and Google Scholar to increase researcher’s visibility, publishing in open access and webometrics, among other topics.

During the closing ceremony, the Guest of Honor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Research, Innovation and Security Studies, Maj Gen William Shume noted that the need to develop capacity for staff at NDU-K is part of internationally accepted best practices in constantly retooling a workforce.

“You are the workforce that NDU-K has selected among many to gain from this training. As you are aware higher education is focused on innovative approaches to course design, implementation and assessment and ultimately publishing; as scholars you need to publish or perish”, he said.

He implored participants to deliver in a manner commensurate to the acquired or enhanced skills in course design, facilitation and assessment as well as publishing tenets, as they reverted back to their stations.

The DVC ended by thanking facilitators who took time from other engagements to enable the successful execution of workshop objectives. He also awarded certificates to facilitators and participants.
