The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Research, Innovation and Security Studies, Major General William Shume on 1st July 2024 presided over the opening ceremony of the 3rd cohort of the Ethics and Leadership for National security course hosted at International Peace and Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen, Nairobi. IPSTC is a College of NDU-K.

The two- day course is designed to enhance National Security awareness for Principal Secretaries to enable effective contribution to socio-economic development and human security for the realization of a secure, prosperous and peaceful Kenya.

While making his opening remarks on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai, the DVC, pointed out that the course is designed for capacity building and training to equip the participants with requisite management and leadership skills and competencies for efficient execution of their mandate.
“We believe at the end of this training, you will be our good ambassadors. The course requires a collective approach, and that is why you are all here today. This training is structured in a way that will allow you to fully engage with our experts and at the end of it, you should be able to help us improve some of the aspects of the training in the realm of governance, leadership and national security, where decisions shape the trajectory of institutions citing the experiences that you will gain through the course,” Maj General Shume added.

While making his presentation on the Defence Policy, Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General John Omenda said that the Policy a framework of norms, principles, strategies, guidelines, and means designed to enable defence and protection the country from threats to its territory and sovereignty, adding that it is inextricably linked to the other government policies.

After completion of course, participants are expected to better contribute in shaping the strategic direction, understanding and perception of national security issues, in order to improve their ability to deliver on their mandates.
