ADVANCING STRATEGIC KNOWLEDGE
The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) successfully conducted a four-day Academic, Research and Grant Writing Workshop at the Defence Headquarters, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening research, innovation and academic excellence.
The forum brought together faculty, facilitators and administrators in a focused effort to enhance research design and build capacity in grant acquisition within an increasingly competitive global environment.
In her address, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academic & Students Affairs Prof. Anne Muigai emphasized on the University’s progress in research and innovation, describing the workshop as a key step towards positioning NDU-K as a competitive, research-intensive institution capable of attracting external funding.
She urged participants to translate the knowledge gained into tangible outcomes, embrace collaboration and strengthen mentorship in advancing research within and beyond the institution.
The DVC further commended the University leadership for their strategic support, noting that such initiatives continue to position NDU-K within the global academic landscape while reinforcing a culture of scholarly excellence.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Research Fund (NRF) Prof Dickson Andala,underscored the critical role of strategic partnerships in advancing national research priorities. He noted that effective grant writing is central to unlocking funding opportunities and driving impactful research that addresses both national and global challenges.
He also encouraged participants to align their research proposals with priority areas, adopt a collaborative approach and leverage available funding mechanisms to enhance the University’s research output and visibility.
The workshop marks another step in NDU-K’s ongoing efforts to foster a robust research ecosystem and to empower its academic community to compete effectively in both local and international research arenas.
