The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) continues to strengthen its position as Kenya's premier institution for higher defence education, research, innovation and strategic leadership by championing transformative initiatives that advance professional military education across the Kenya Defence Forces. In line with this commitment, the University is conducting a preliminary assessment visit to the Kenya Naval Training College (KNTC) as part of its roadmap to integrate the naval institution as a college of NDU-K.

The assessment seeks to evaluate KNTC's institutional, academic and training capacity in preparation for its accreditation and eventual integration into the University's academic framework. The initiative is expected to strengthen the College's institutional capacity, enhance the quality of its military and academic programmes and align its operations with NDU-K's quality assurance framework while supporting the Kenya Navy's evolving training and operational requirements. It will also inform the development of a structured roadmap to guide the College's transformation into a centre of excellence for naval education and training.

Led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Professor Anne Muigai, the NDU-K delegation will undertake a comprehensive review of the College's governance structures, academic systems, training programmes and institutional support mechanisms to establish its readiness for integration into the University's academic ecosystem.

As they commenced the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call to the Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, for a strategic engagement at the Kenya Navy Headquarters. The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between the Kenya Navy and NDU-K and underscored their shared commitment to strengthening professional military education, institutional development and strategic collaboration in support of Kenya's national defence objectives.

The team later proceeded to the Kenya Naval Training College, where the assessment provided the NDU-K team with first-hand insight into the College's learning environment, instructional resources and operational capabilities. The visit enabled the team to evaluate the institution's readiness for accreditation and eventual integration into the University's academic framework, while identifying opportunities to strengthen academic governance, enhance professional military education and align the College's programmes and systems with national and international higher education quality assurance frameworks.

The ongoing assessment reflects NDU-K's unwavering commitment to building a world-class defence education system through strategic partnerships, institutional development and academic excellence. By guiding the transformation of the Kenya Naval Training College into a college of NDU-K, the University is reinforcing its leadership in higher defence education while strengthening the capacity of the Kenya Defence Forces to prepare military professionals capable of addressing emerging national, regional and global security challenges.
