Strong governance and effective institutional leadership continue to shape the National Defence University–Kenya's (NDU-K) growth as the University strengthens its administrative systems, enhances operational efficiency, and advances strategic initiatives that support academic excellence, research, innovation, and institutional sustainability.

Serving as the University's principal management organ responsible for the day-to-day administration of institutional affairs, the University Management Board (UMB), during its 20th meeting held at the University Seat, reviewed progress on key strategic priorities, deliberated on critical policy and administrative matters, and outlined interventions to strengthen institutional performance, enhance operational excellence, and drive the University's long-term growth and transformation.

Addressing the Board, the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, commended members for their dedication to providing strategic leadership and ensuring the effective management of the University in accordance with its Charter and Statutes. He observed that the Board's collective stewardship continues to strengthen institutional systems, promote accountability, and support the achievement of the University's strategic objectives.

The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the University's commitment to continuously enhancing administrative systems and strengthening teaching and learning support services to improve operational efficiency and enrich the academic experience. He noted that these efforts remain central to positioning the University as a leading institution in higher education, research, innovation, and professional development.

Recognising the importance of long-term strategic planning, Lieutenant General Tarus called upon Board members to actively contribute to the ongoing review of the University's Strategic Plan. He encouraged the submission of innovative proposals and practical recommendations that will reinforce good governance, improve institutional performance, and enhance the quality and relevance of academic programmes across the University's colleges.

The meeting reaffirmed the University Management Board's collective commitment to fostering a responsive, innovative, and high-performing institution that remains aligned with its vision and mission while responding effectively to emerging national, regional, and global priorities.
