NDU-K Senate Strengthens Academic Governance and Institutional Excellence

Academic excellence, quality assurance and institutional performance took centre stage during the 20th Regular Senate Meeting and 16th Senate Board of Examiners Meeting of the National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K), held at the University Seat in Lanet, Nakuru County.

The meetings reviewed key academic and institutional matters aimed at strengthening academic governance, enhancing the quality of education and training, and advancing the University's strategic priorities across its seven Colleges.

Chairing the meetings, the Vice-Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, commended members of Senate, University Management and staff for their continued commitment to academic excellence, effective governance and institutional growth.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the need to sustain high academic standards, strengthen quality assurance systems and ensure effective delivery of academic programmes. He noted that strong academic governance and quality-assured processes are essential to positioning NDU-K as a Centre of Excellence in Defence, Security and Strategic Studies and strengthening its contribution to national security and development.

The deliberations covered a range of academic matters, including examination processes, academic programmes, quality assurance, research and other issues relating to teaching and learning across the University's Colleges.

The Senate Board of Examiners also considered examination-related matters, with emphasis on integrity, consistency and credibility in student assessment as the University prepares for its fourth graduation in November. The discussions reinforced the University's commitment to credible and quality-assured assessment processes that support the development of competent professionals equipped to address contemporary defence, security and strategic challenges.

The meetings brought together Commandants of NDU-K’s Colleges, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Directors, Heads of Programmes and Heads of Departments at the University Seat.

Through strong academic governance and continuous institutional improvement, NDU-K continues to advance its mandate of developing strategic leaders through education, research and innovation in support of national security and development.
