STRENGTHENING SECURITY PARTNERSHIPS

The National Defence University–Kenya (NDU-K) has reinforced its strategic role in advancing national and global security through an engagement with the State Department for Diaspora Affairs. The collaborative meeting signalled a proactive and forward-looking commitment to safeguarding Kenyans both at home and across the world.

The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration in security training and capacity building to address emerging and increasingly complex security challenges affecting the Kenyan diaspora. As global dynamics continue to shift, both institutions underscored the need for proactive, well-coordinated responses that extend beyond national borders.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Major General Joyce Sitienei, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Centre for Security and Strategic Studies (CSSS), reaffirmed NDU-K’s position as a premier institution in defence and security education. She emphasized the University’s readiness to develop responsive, tailored training programmes designed to equip personnel with the skills required to navigate today’s evolving security landscape.

Highlighting the broader context, the DVC noted the growing nexus between national security, diaspora engagement and global trends. She described Kenya’s diaspora as a critical strategic asset—one that not only strengthens diplomatic ties and international relations but also plays a pivotal role in national development.

Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu, represented by Dr. John Korir, welcomed the collaboration and reiterated the Department’s mandate to safeguard the welfare and rights of Kenyans abroad. He emphasized that diaspora operations—including evacuations and emergency interventions—demand a coordinated, multi-agency approach involving key security actors such as the Kenya Defence Forces, hence the urgent need for specialized training.

The engagement marks a significant milestone in fostering closer institutional collaboration, anchored in a shared commitment to building a resilient, informed, and security-conscious diaspora community in an increasingly interconnected world.
